Leviathan - before I started to rework it
This picture means a lot to me, so it was with some uncertainty that I set about to rework it. I did so because I think it represented the antecedent of what I am doing now, though I didn't realise this significance until recently.
I like a lot about it - the movement and rawness - but it can be better (I hope).
As I start to work I am tentative and just recolour the edges painting them dark blue. A coherent shape emerges dominating the painting. I find this intriguing and start to adjust marks to focus on its solidity, reducing the sandy yellow passages and making ghese sections darker.
Slowly the turquoise lines reassert themselves and I become interested in what might happen if this painting was all about that line...and then I get nervous and pack up for the day.
